The Russian Revolution ranks among the most pivotal events in world history. This year it turns 100, but it remains the subject of heated debate even a quarter century after the collapse of the Soviet Union to which it gave birth. This lecture, by a historian of the Russian Empire who has spent years living and conducting research in Russia, will consider the Revolution’s most fundamental causes and consequences, while reflecting on its meaning for today's world.
